Lafayette has long standing issues with lack of public parking in the downtown area. To hopefully help ease the situation, the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Design Committee has designed a parking banner to display on city public parking lots.

These banners were approved by City Council on April 14th. These parking banners are the same size as our existing pole banners, and will be hung at the Bank of Lafayette Community Room on E. Villanow Street, and the Courthouse parking lot below Dr. Levie’s office also on E. Villanow Street. Both of these lots are public parking areas, however many citizens do not realize they are available for their use.

These  banners will not replace any of the existing business banners, but will be hung on the opposite sides of the poles at these 2 parking lots. Watch for these new banners to be installed in mid-May.

The Downtown Development Authority meets monthly at Walker-Lafayette library in the board room, the 1st Tuesday night of the month at 6pm. The public is always invited to attend.

News Release – Software Upgrade

The City of LaFayette is upgrading our Financial and Utility Billing software, funded by SPLOST.  The existing software is over 30 years old, and lacks a lot of functionality that newer software provides.  One major factor creating an urgency to convert is the requirement to eliminate the Post Card style bill.  The Post Office has been patient with the City in its requirement to convert to a bill contained in an envelope.  The new software will also provide greater flexibility in financial analysis, reporting, budgeting and after the training period is complete will allow for greater efficiency.  One notable advantage to the new software is its ability to interface with an online payment software for customers.  We have decided to focus on the software conversion first to allow time for operators to gain proficiency to minimize customer impact.  After we work through the transition, we will implement an online billpay software to complement the operating software.  Training began April 6th, and will continue through the launch of the new software on May 18.  We will be manually handling bill payments May 11th through 15th while the data conversion and verification takes place from the old software to the new.  We will continue to operate, but will close City Hall on Monday May 18th and Tuesday May 19th to complete the conversion process.  Customers will be able to drop off payments at the night drop during this time.

The impact to customers will be the following:  1) The Utility Bill will be mailed in an envelope, and will have a different appearance (sample attached) beginning with Billing Cycle 1, which will be billed the week of launch on May 18th, and will be due for payment on June 5.  Customers with due dates on June 15th and June 25th will also receive bills in envelopes.  2) City Hall will be closed on May 18th and 19th.  3) Customers with Levelized Billing will be receiving a letter explaining your options to sign up for Budget Billing which has the same principle but is calculated differently.

Please bring your bill with you to make your payment as this greatly expedites the payment process by helping the cashier quickly identify your account.  Also, please be patient with our cashiers as they come up to speed in an entirely different software and user interface that has different navigation.  Thank you for having patience during our progress.
