Facilities

The city owns and operates all parks and recreation facilities.

 

The Municipal Park Center (638 S. Main St.) features a gymnasium, game room, two meeting rooms, kitchen, four baseball/softball fields, three tennis courts, swimming pool, fitness trail with Par-Fit Course, one outdoor volleyball court, four picnic shelters with grills, playground and walking track. The Parks and Recreation Department main office is at this facility.

Monday      8 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Tuesday     8 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Wednesday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Thursday    8 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Friday        8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Saturday    12 Noon- 5 p.m.

The Ross Abney Complex (101 First St.) features a football stadium. practice field, and walking track.

 

The Max Stoker Center (700 Glenn St.) features a meeting room for groups of 50 to 75 people. Activities room used for dance classes.  Four Soccer fields and a new walking track.

 

The Lowell Greene Center (301 Webb Wheeler Rd.) features a gymnasium and a new Softball Complex under construction to be completed in 2010.

 

Simmons Memorial Park (12 Mill St.) features a picnic shelter, outdoor basketball court, playground and baseball/softball practice field.

 

Joe Stock Memorial Park (208-B N. Main St.) is a passive park, which features a gazebo, play fountain and memorial park.

 

 Joe Stock Memorial Park,

the site of many seasonal events,

is beside the Marsh House and Chattooga Academy,

also called John B. Gordon Hall,

on North Main Street.

Facility Rentals

All picnic shelters and meeting rooms are available for rentals. Reservations and rental fees are done at the Recreation Department's main office at 638 S. Main Street. For more information, see reserving facilities.

Special programs and activities

  

LaFayette City Pool offers programs including swim lessons, lap swimming, party rentals and public/family swim hours.  Swim lesson registration are open hours at the Recreation Department, and the program's slots are filled quickly. Class sizes are limited.  Each session is one week with classes offered in the morning and evening.  Click here for 2010 Flyer

 

A one-mile fitness trail is behind the swimming pool and features our Para-Fit Course with exercise stations at the entrance of trail.  During winter months, walking is permitted inside the gym from 8-10 a.m. Monday through Friday.

 

A one-quarter mile walking track is next to the gym around the playground, another one-quarter mile track is next to the Ross Abney Complex, and our newest track is located at Max Stoker around one of the Soccer fields, 1/5 mile.

 

The Recreation Department host the annual City of LaFayette Freedom Festival on the Friday before the 4th of July.  See forms page for vendor application.  Click here for 2010 Flyer

 

Line Dancing lessons are offered on Monday and Tuesday at the Ross Abney Room, from 6:00-8 p.m. Call Vicky Jones at (706) 638-1603 for more information.

 

Drama Classes - Opening Act, Musical Theatre, Advanced Acting and Teen Acting Troupe. Ages 7 - 16. For more information contact Vince Stalling at 423-364-7801.

 

TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) meets on Tuesday's 5:30-7 P.M. Call Pamela Kellett at (706) 764-9115 for more information.

 

Senior Neighbors meet the 1st Thursday of each month. A program followed by a covered dish lunch.  For more information contact Vera Palmer at 706-638-7391

 

 

 

 

The department hosts summer sports and the city's annual Freedom Festival, celebrating the Fourth of July.

Youth baseball, ages 3 to 12, Feb. through July.

 

Girl's softball, ages 5 to 14, Feb. through July.

 

Youth swim lessons, ages 4 and up, June through July.

 

Youth football, ages 4 to 11, August through November.

 

Youth cheerleading, ages 4 to 12, August through November.

 

Youth soccer, ages 4 to 13, August through November.

 

Youth volleyball, church league, August through November.

 

Adult volleyball, open/church, August through November.
