City Manager
Johnnie
Arnold was appointed LaFayette’s city manager by the mayor and
council in 1998. He is responsible for the city’s daily
operations. The mayor and council set policy, and the city manager
is responsible for making sure it is carried out properly. The
department heads report to the city manager and handle the daily
operations of their respective departments. The city manager
is responsible for seeing that all laws and ordinances are enforced
and that the business affairs of the city are efficiently organized
and handled. He exercises administrative control over all
departments, agencies and divisions of the city. He makes
recommendations to mayor and council, prepares the annual operating
budget, and keeps the mayor and council informed of the city’s
financial condition.
City Clerk
Brenda
Snyder has worked for the city since 1991 when she was secretary
of the Gas Department. She then worked in city administration,
serving as deputy clerk until she was appointed city clerk in
December 2006. She is responsible for all financial aspects of
the city. She has two sons, Blake and Seth, and is a member of
Pleasant Grove Church of Christ.
City Attorney
Ronald
R. Womack was born in Fort Wayne, Ind., and admitted to the Georgia
bar in 1974. He earned his bachelor of business administration
degree at the University of Georgia in 1971 and his law degree in
1974. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma and
Phi Delta Phi. Since 1979, he has served as board attorney for
Walker County Board of Education and city attorney for the City of
Trenton. He has served as city attorney for the City of
LaFayette since 1990, as board attorney for the Dade County Board of
Education since 1982 and as special assistant attorney general,
State of Georgia since 1982. He is a member of the Lookout
Mountain Judicial Circuit Bar Association and State Bar of Georgia.
City Judge
Kenneth
S. Maples was born and raised in LaFayette, and is the son of the
late Ralph and Evelyn Maples. He is a lifelong resident of
LaFayette and graduated from LaFayette High School. He
established Kenneth Maples & Sons Construction in 1996 which
specializes in new home construction, re-modeling and home editions.
Prior to starting his own business, he worked for twenty-seven years
in the carpet industry. He has held positions as Plant
Manager, head of Research and Product Development, Director of Sales
and Marketing and was Vice President of Operations before leaving
the industry in 1996. He was instrumental in the start up of
new businesses in Dalton, Calhoun, Chatsworth and Jacksonville,
Florida. Kenneth has been married for forty-two years to Doris
Brown Maples and they have three children, Angela, Ken, Jr. and
Phil.
